This place is about to clean up.
After all, there aren’t a vast amount of new pop up cocktail bars opening at the moment. And of those that are, very few of them are located in an old abandoned car wash. In fact, there’s precisely one: The Old Car Wash.
You’ll find it in (shocker!) Hackney this August, but its modishly up-cycled location is more than just transparent hipster-bait. Because being an open-air venue with a couple of walls and giant roof slung over the top, it’s somehow both extremely well-ventilated and atmospheric. Which is rare these days. Then there’s the fact that the bar & drinking areas are all designed with Covid-safe precautions in mind, with a simple one-way system, neatly distanced tables, table service, and a handy arrangement for ordering drinks from your phone.
Those drinks come in the form of cocktails including their classic negroni and a Rosemary Paloma (tequila, grapefruit, lime, home-made rosemary syrup), plus draught beers from Camden Brewery, wine, and Square Root sodas. And they’re even happy for you to order in takeaway from any of Hackney’s fine food establishments, too.
All told, there’s enough room for 70-ish drinkers, which means that they have the luxury of setting aside a few seats for walk-ins.
You’ll be waxing on about it in no time.
NOTE: The Old Car Wash is open Friday-Sunday throughout August and weekends in September. You can find out more, and make a booking at their website right HERE.
