Things To Do

Vintners Lanes

If there’s one thing that Davy’s Wine Vault hasn’t been missing over the half century that it’s been open, it’s a bowling alley.

But now they’ve added one anyway.

This is Vintners Lanes, a boutique six-lane-er slapped right next to Davy’s storied wine bar down in Greenwich. You’ll be welcomed by a Victoriana-inspired interior and vintage bowling memorabilia – a refreshing change from the abrasive neon lights and shrill arcade cacophony of most bowling alleys. Each of the lanes can accommodate up to 12 of your sharpest-shooting friends, but they also offer private hire for those wanting to bring an army of skittlers.

Like the decor, the food is a touch more sophisticated than classic alley grub, but just as apt to fuel your gloating. It’s still burgers, pizzas, and chips mainly, but with a few twists. Think mushroom arancini and panko prawns for sides, burgers served in potato buns, and ice cream from the wonderful Jude’s.

The Davy’s crew specialise in wine, so it goes without saying that their selection is none too shabby, but they’ve also expanded their offerings to include cocktails, spirits, beers, and a fun range of “shooters”: Gutter Balls, Lucky Strike Slammers, and Peach Splits. If your opponent is running away with victory, buy them a couple of shooters and watch them start to beg for the sides to be put up.

So, at Vintners Lanes you can’t play Pac-Man while you wait to sling a spare, but you can recline and sip a fine wine.

It’s a striking combination.

NOTE: Vintners Lanes is open daily. You can find out more and make a booking on the Vintners Lanes website.
