Wide Awake Festival | An Independent Day Festival in Brockwell Park
If you’re reading this, then the odds of you enjoying Wide Awake Festival are quite high.
And not because you’re probably already wide awake, but more because you’re probably someone looking to get the most out of London life – and this is one of those wonderful little gems that you’ll likely wish you knew about years ago. Because as festivals go they just seem to do everything right, from bands to beliefs. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s really fun, too and they’re also giving Nudge Members 30% off all ticket types.
The whole thing is an independent setup founded by Bad Vibrations, LNZRT and the creators behind some of London’s most iconic, small music venues: MOTH Club and The Shacklewell Arms. It’s taking place in Brockwell Park (just south of Brixton, plenty of transport links) on the balmy-sounding date of May 27th – and as well as caring about the music, they also happen to give a sh*t about the environment & the community too. They don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk and they pick up any stray rubbish they see while they’re doing it.
On the day itself, they’ll be stacking seven stages with 40+ acts ranging from upbeat headliner Caroline Polachek to set-ups like Black Country, New Road; Daniel Avery; Shygirl; Los Bitchos; and the Viagra Boys among many others. And if you care to do the maths, you’ll find that the bands are an even 50/50 gender split. Supporting them all you’ll find a ton of street food, fully stocked bars, and a slick VIP area too.
Also just to swing briefly back to that whole ‘environment’ thing – being keenly aware of the effect a massive event like this can have, the festival’s principles include promises to leave no trace of litter behind, bury zero waste in landfill from everything they clean up, ban single-use plastic on the day, only provide ethically sourced food & biodegradable stage effects, recycle all waste from the traders, and more. Add to that their community fund & commitment to hiring local businesses too…
…and one could even say they’re wide awake.
