The Wine Car Boot is full of best cellars.
After all, it’s where you can really get under the hood of London’s independent wine scene, with the city’s most exciting wine retailers, importers and producers coming together to pour their most interesting (and surprisingly affordable) bottles.
Since 2013, the Wine Car Boot has been on a self-avowed mission to help you ‘taste your way out of the supermarket’. And if anyone’s going to break your vice-like grip away from a bottle of Whispering Angel, it’s these people. The market was founded by Ruth Spivey, who has quite an impressive track record when it comes to wine: she’s a writer, ambassador and has consulted on wine lists everywhere from Wilderness festival to Michelin-starred Arbutus. But most importantly, this dazzling career all started with drinking wine from supermarkets, so she knows exactly where you’re coming from – and wants to fast-track where you’re going.
Thus, the Wine Car Boot is returning on Saturday 20th July with all guns blazing. This year the line-up includes cult bottle shops like Passione Vino and Newcomer Wines; esteemed suppliers like The Modest Merchant and Uncharted Wines; and even London winemakers Renegade and London Cru.
So how does it all work? You’ll tip up to the market in Coal Drops Yard – entry is free – and either bag yourself a couple of tasting tokens for £1 a pop, or a literal bag: a limited-edition tote filled with five tokens (that’s 10 for Nudge Members) and a bespoke tasting glass. Then, it’s up to you to follow your nose, chat to the traders, and sip your way through the kaleidoscope of wines on offer. If you find something you love (which is highly likely), you can pull up a chair and drink-in by the glass or bottle, or purchase one to take home with you and enjoy later.
On top of all this, there’ll also be music, emergency beer rations for any non-wine fans you’ve dragged along, and even food stalls from the likes of Morty & Bob’s and Dishoom… to boot.
NOTE: Wine Car Boot takes place on Saturday 20th July, 12-8pm, at Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross. It’s free to enter, and tasting tokens are £1 each. You can also get a tasting pack (tote bag, wine glass, 5 tokens & local discounts) for £20 (inc. £1 charity donation). You can find out more about Wine Car Boot here.
PREVIOUS PERK: Nudge Members got an exclusive discount off tasting packs and bonus tasting tokens for Wine Car Boot.
