Holy Carrot

Holy Carrot is finally laying down roots.

After running sold-out supperclubs, popups and residencies for the last couple of years, it’s about to get its first proper, brick-and-mortar joint in Notting Hill. And to run it, they’ve secured the talents of Daniel Watkins, one of the co-founders of ACME Fire Cult (which is easily one of the best restaurants to open in the last couple of years). The food he produces there is absolutely bloody delicious, and there’s every reason to suspect that Holy Carrot will be, well, divine

You’ll find Holy Carrot, when it eventually opens to Joe Public, on one of the more colourful stretches of Portobello Road where it’ll basically be staring at The Electric Cinema on one side and Trailer Happiness on the other (neighbours who practically weave their own date night date). Inside, the design has been led by owner and ex-Vogue Ukraine producer Irina Linovich, who’s brought an elegant and earthy tone to the place thanks to bespoke ceramics and a soundtrack of lo-fi ambient beats.

The menu is going to be built around the same methods of fire & fermentation that made both ACME Fire Cult such a roaring success. That basically means a low-waste, root-to-shoot ethos that requires a huge amount of creativity to deliver, and yields some amazing results. Dishes you can expect will include the holiest of smoked chilli butter carrot skewers; roasted oyster mushrooms with tahini, dashi, garum & mushroom salt; grilled watermelon with smacked cucumber, ancho oil, togarashi & shiso leaf; charred citrus with coconut & lime leaf asparagus; and grilled pineapple & miso butterscotch soft serve.

There’s plenty of good booze to go with all that ballast too, including an ever-rotating list of natural & biodynamic wines, and some classic Holy Carrot cocktails. But the real peach? That would be the new cocktail partnership with The Bar With Shapes For A Name, which is currently sitting pretty on the World’s 50 Best Bars list. They share the same low-waste philosophy as the restaurant, and are keen to lend their tipple talents to Holy Carrot…

…which should help them get back to their roots.
