A Virtual Pub Quiz For Every Day Of The Week
If you’re starting to feel like the old grey cells are starting to get a little rusty, you’re not alone.
We regularly forget what day of the week we live with.
Thankfully, pubs are stepping up and doing what they do best – making us smarter – by finding ways to host their weekly pub quizzes online instead. Here’s a pick of the best ones on every day…
The Pembury Tavern
Hackney’s stately local might be closed for now, but they’re opening their doors online every Monday for a virtual quiz. Prizes range from tours of the Five Points Brewery to £20 bar tabs, free pizza, online shop discounts and brewery merch – and they’re busy working on a home delivery system so that you can enjoy their craft cans and pizza while you play.
Details: Mondays, 7pm | Hosted here | £2 donation recommended to Mind
The Alexandra’s Lockdown Quiz
This is Mick. He’s great. And he’s hosting his Monday night quizzes over Instagram while The Alexandra is closed down in Wimbledon. Picture rounds go online at 4pm for keen beans wanting a head start, and the questions all kick off on Instagram live at 8pm.
Details: Mondays at 8pm | Hosted here | Free
Big Drop’s Living Room Pub Quiz
It’s a living room pub quiz, beamed directly from co-founder James’… shed. The inaugural quiz saw a mere 14,000 people take part, so competition for first place might be a little fierce – but they’re hoping to run giveaways throughout the event. Their beers are available for delivery available, too, so you can sink a couple of their award-winning 0.5% brews (with no risk of reducing your cognitive faculties) while you’re quizzing.
Details: Tuesdays, 7pm | Hosted here | Free
The Quiz Team
The Quiz Team are the trivia buffs who run the legendary pub quiz at The Flask in Highgate. Founder Jez will be hosting an online version every week, via Facebook live. It’s just £1 to enter, and should include their usual picture and music rounds alongside classic trivia.
Details: Wednesdays at 7pm | Hosted via private link – sign up here | £1
Fuller’s Ultimate Stay Inn Quiz
Fuller’s – the brewery behind some of London’s loveliest pubs including the flower-festooned Churchill Arms in Kensington and The Lamb and Flag in Covent Garden – have launched an entire online pub, The Stay Inn (wheeey). Through their website, they’re hosting Happy Hour on Fridays with mixology classes, live music on Saturdays, and a good old fashioned pub quiz every Wednesday. No need to pre-register; just load up their Facebook page at 8.30pm.
Details: Wednesdays at 8.30pm | Hosted here | Free
Camden Town Brewery’s Pub Quiz
Bringing you “IRL pints in a URL venue”, the Bre.www.ery Bar is Camden Town Brewery’s virtual taproom. Like Fuller’s, they’ve put together a programme of weekly events to get involved with. There’s live music, comedy, and a pub quiz every Thursday, hosted by comedian Josh Weller. It’s free, but there’s a virtual tip jar in aid of Hospitality Action (which is looking after restaurant & bar staff who are struggling right now), and prizes include Hells Lagers delivered right to your door.
Details: Thursdays 7-8pm | Hosted here | Free
BrewDog Online Bar
The two BrewDog founders both legally changed their names to Elvis to circumvent a copyright infringement notice from the Elvis Presley estate. So it’s fair to say that a pandemic’s not going to get in their way, either. The craft brewery has launched an online bar with weekly live events including beer tastings, pairing masterclasses, desk yoga, live music, messages from the Elvises (Elvi?), and a Friday night pub quiz. Registration seems to be a little tricksy for this one so make sure you sign up in good time when it opens on Friday morning.
Details: Friday sessions from 6pm | Register ahead here
Hmm… nobody seems to be running a quiz on a Saturday, presumably because most people have cool Saturday night plans. By which we mean, playing board games with your friends over the internet.
Alternatively, you could hop over to The Covid Arms, an online pub comedy night.
Josh Weller’s Sunday Night Music Quiz
If you enjoyed the Camden Town Brewery’s pub quiz on Thursday, then you should add this one to your list, too. It’s run by the same host, professional rib tickler Josh Weller, but this time made up of four rounds of music-related questions. Above is a sample of his comedy for your delectation.
Details: Sundays, 7-8pm or 8-9pm – check ahead on instagram | Hosted here | Free
Inquizition is the trivia team behind dozens of London’s best pub quizzes, like The Canonbury Tavern in Islington, The Bedford in Balham, and The Old George in Bethnal Green. They’ve been going for almost ten years, and founder Alex takes a minimum of 50 hours every week to compile The Quiz. So yes, it’s very good. In lieu of being able to host in actual pubs, he’s taking it online for the foreseeable, with a lovely soundtrack of emerging musicians and artists to accompany it all.
Details: Sundays, 8-9.30pm (ish) | Hosted here | Free
