Which is why it’s so convenient that a few of them are going to teach that particular skill to you, in Bethnal Green Town Hall’s new immersive theatre show/game The Grift.
Coming to us after a superb sold-out debut run in San Diego (where the San Diego Times fawned over its “wild imagination and meticulous attention to detail”), the show has been adapted & rewritten to specifically fit The Bethnal Green Town Hall. On any given performance, there’ll be just 50 audience members loose throughout the space, interacting with each other, with cast members, and with the free cocktail they’re each getting.
During the show, you’ll first learn how to effectively pull off a repertoire of basic, real-world hustles including The Pig In The Poke (a con so dependable it dates back to medieval times); The Round-The Corner (which could legitimately be used to get free Amazon goodies, not that you should), and The Money Swap (another that easily could – and never should – be put into practice in the real world). After you’ve been trained up, you’ll put your skills to the test by pulling off a heist, and fooling a criminal mastermind with an elaborate double bluff. At least, that’s the plan.
As we mention, all tickets come with a free cocktail, but if you spring for the higher tier offering, you’ll also get a two course meal at the elegant Corner Room restaurant thrown in (with a regularly changing menu including the likes of sea bass ceviche with broad beans, or lamb rump & belly with baby vegetables) for considerably less than it would otherwise cost.
So, there are a quite few pros to go with all those cons.
