Jerk Fest

Jerk Fest | Rooftop Party
By Jade Ross

If you’re looking for three good reasons why summer in London is better than the Caribbean, then look no further.

Because there aren’t any.

However, though the sun-drenched shores of the Caribbean may be frustratingly out of reach, on Saturday 6th August a little slice of Jamaica is coming to the capital in the form of Wray’s Jerk Fest. For one day only the Bussey Rooftop Bar in Peckham will be transformed into a sizzling wonderland of Jamaican culture – the 9 hour party kicks off at 2pm, and will have:

1) Six jerk specialists battling to be crowned London’s top BBQ chef in the ultimate, erm, ‘jerk-off’ (judged by the ravenous crowd).

2) Nine DJs be spinning Jamaican beats in the open-air whilst Wray & Nephew’s bar pours potent pitchers of rum punch.

3) A Free Pour Challenge to test your drink-making skills.

4) A rooftop cinema to watch “a cult Jamaican film”. Which they haven’t announced yet. But given that most people can only name one Jamaican film…

…it would be cool if that were in the running.

NOTE: Wray’s Jerk Fest takes place Saturday 6th August (2pm – 11pm) at the Bussey Rooftop Bar in Peckham. Entry is FREE and it’s a mere £5 to sample all of the jerk BBQs and cast a vote in the competition.
