MAKEMORE Festival

MAKEMORE Festival | A Banquet Of Creativity In Victoria Park

MAKEMORE is the festival for “makers and doers”.

Not for those who merely make do.

It’s debuting this year in Victoria Park, for a long five-day weekend of creativity fuelled activities from 23rd – 27th August. They’ll be filling the park with over 100 creatives from across the worlds of design, crafts, animation, painting, printmaking, ceramics, woodwork, and basically anything that involves actually making something.

The point is for festival-goers to get a chance to get hands-on, with masterclasses, demos, taster sessions, live performances, and more. Here’s a taste of what they’ll have on offer:

VISUAL ARTS

You’ll get the chance to turn and join wood with Barn the Spoon, cobble shoes with Carréducker, or take part in bushcraft activities with The Exploration Society. Aardman Animation will even be there to give you an inside look into their world of model animation. There will also be street art from the immensely talented Nathan Bowen. Add to that some poster making, ceramics workshops (there’ll be two tonnes of clay ready for pot throwing), and live interactive art installations.

FOOD & DRINK

Masterchef’s Dhruv Baker will be showing off his British charcuterie skills, as the Guardian’s Felicity Cloake is on hand to talk through all things bread and butter. Kathy Slack is set to share her valuable advice on how Londoners can grow vegetables in an urban setting, as the sustainable beekeeping practice, Bermondsey Street Bees will be showcasing English raw honeys in foods and planting for bee forage. You can perfect the art of filleting fish with star of River Cottage Tim Maddams, or go to one of the supper-club takeovers by the head chef, Thom Eagle, at Hackney’s Little Duck the Picklery, and that’s just the tip of the delicious iceberg.

PERFORMANCE

Delving into the world of more transient creativity, the fest will have performances of physical theatre from Frantic Assembly, live music from Nest Collective, stand up comedy from the likes of Shappi Khorsandi and Simon Brodkin.

This festival is what you make of it.

NOTE: MAKEMORE takes place from the 23rd-27th August. Tickets are available now (from £28-£32 for an adult day ticket) from their website right HERE.
