These guys are onto a winner.
You see, way back in 1875, the folk of Pomona in LA County were undecided as to what to call their city. Not having much by way of entertainment in those days, they held an dramatic and nail-biting naming contest, and, well, you can probably guess the rest. But in a wonderful karmic circle, this city has now given its name to new relaxed West London eatery, Pomona’s.
And the atmosphere here is suitably laid-back with an English summer garden vibe, featuring pops of vibrant pastels and an abundance of potted greenery.
In this bright botanical abode – or on their sun-dappled summer terrace – you’ll be free to peruse the menu. It’s slowly evolved alongside a series of different chefs into a seasonally focussed, Modern British menu. Newly appointed head chef Ruth Hansom spent five years in the kitchens of the Ritz, was the first woman to win Young National Chef of the Year in 2017 (!) and is now bringing her expertise in British produce and a fine dining slant to the menu. You can expect dishes like eel with Isle of Wight tomatoes, aubergine and tarragon; Swaledale lamb rump with wild garlic, English pea and morrel; and Wye Valley asparagus with mint and pine – as well as a daily tasting menu.
And if you’re in a really indulgent mood? Sidle over to the bar, where you can sample cocktails like the Matcha Mule, the Smoked Mezcal Old Fashioned, or the Espresso Martini… with salted caramel.
Sounds like a winning combination.
