LIFT Festival | Festival of Theatre
It’s like a live, ultra-high definition, fully 3D movie.
Without the glasses.
And thanks to LIFT (the London International Festival of Theatre), a whole bunch of the world’s best stage-fillers are coming right here to the capital, just for you.
This year it runs for the full month of June, and will see 30 productions (including 13 world premiers) from 14 countries showing everywhere from a Tower Hamlets Cemetery, to a Victorian music hall in Hoxton and a Stratford Car Park, as well as The Barbican, Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Court.
Here are a mere few of the many highlights:
Miss Revolutionary Idol Berserker. This is going to require a rain poncho and ear plugs …because you’ll not only be bombarded by noise and colour, but also water, confetti, and tofu in a vibrant homage to Japanese youth culture that is a rapid-fire, intricately choreographed assault on the senses.
MINEFIELD. Lauded artist Lola Arias is bringing together, on stage, six British and Argentinian men whose only common ground is The Falkland Islands, and the fact that they’re all veterans of a war there in which they once tried to kill each other. They’ll share their first hand experience of conflict and how it shapes life thereafter.
Depart. This Anglo / Australian co-production is staged in an East-end graveyard, where you will (almost) literally see the dead come to life with circus artists, choral singers, designers and musicians, from the highly acclaimed international theatre company, Circa.
And of course there are a ton more shows, with everything from dancing, to brass bands and ancient Greeks, from the USA, Argentina, the Middle East, Australia, Japan, France, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Canada and the Netherlands.
Now go play.
NOTE: LIFT Festival runs from 1st June – 2nd July at locations all across London. You can purchase tickets, and find out more information about the festival itself right HERE.
