Sky High Dining | Cable car restaurant above the Thames
Airline food is about to get a serious upgrade.
Not content with running two pop ups on the Southbank this summer, relentless roving chef Jimmy Garcia is also cooking up a five-course, drinks-paired feast for diners in Greenwich.
Oh, and it’s all going to be served in cable cars.
Here’s how it all goes down (so to speak): you’ll head on over to the Southside terminal of the Emirates Cable Car in Greenwich, and make your way to the hanger bar. Here, overlooking the river, you’ll get some bubbly and a few canapés before getting a starter of hand-dived scallops with chickpea, chorizo, and cauliflower.
Then comes the bit we’ve all been waiting for: you’ll step aboard the cable car, and find your wine-paired main course waiting for you: either lamb rump with pea & broad bean salad, roscoff onion, onion jus, pea & mint puree, and potato terrine, or some ricotta gnudi with purple sprouting broccoli, gremolata, and brown butter dressing. Whatever you choose, it should all go quite nicely with the London skyline lazily passing beneath you.
Once you hit the other side, you’ll disembark, then reembark for the return trip in a new pod, this time loaded with dessert. That dessert will be an appropriately cloud-like affair, consisting of ultra-light aerated mint & white chocolate housed in a tempered chocolate dome with edible silver leaf all placed on a bed of vanilla candyfloss. And there’ll be espresso martinis to wash it all down.
It’ll all take a good 90 minutes from start to finish, and the pods themselves are -understandably – extremely intimate, with just four people per trip. In fact, tickets must be bought in pairs, and unless you book 4 seats, there’ll be another couple there too.
It’s taking dining to new heights.
