Ixta Belfrage at The Standard

For those wondering, Ixta Belfrage’s name is pronounced ‘easter bell-fridge’.

And by a delicious co-incidence, for a lot of people easter is a word that evokes the idea of huge, delicious feasts. Likewise for fridges.

So if you’re in the market for a huge, delicious Ixta feast, then head down to the restaurant in the Standard Hotel (Isla on the ground floor, not Decimo on the roof) sometime over the three months between 22nd March & June. Because she’s running a pop up there featuring some of the best dishes she came up with during her storied career, which has seen her write cookbooks, run the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen, and put on some ludicrously good supperclubs.

Here she’s settling into The Standard’s rather modishly beautiful restaurant, which starts in the upscale hotel lobby before spilling out onto the verdant garden terrace, which is pinned in the corner by a copper-coloured fireplace, and wrapped in a coat of lush vegetation.

On the menu you’ll find a rundown of Brazilian, Mexican, and Italian-inspired dishes from Ixta’s favourites. It’s a concise menu, with just three small & three large plates, with the hero dishes being the moqueca fish sliders; the famed king prawn lasagne with habanero oil; the guava roast duck tacos with charred spring onions & chipotle crema; and the crisped sticky rice stuffed aubergine with salsa roja.

You can then finish it all up with a honey-roasted cashew ice cream choco-taco, and wash it all down with a guava margarita.

Happy easter, indeed.
