Parlour Kensal Rise

Parlour, Kensal Rise | An All-Day Neighbourhood Spot Fit For Any Occasion

An all day kitchen and bar, Parlour’s the kind of place you can go to at any time of the day.

In any mood.

With anyone.

The interior’s cool but understated: mustard yellow banquettes contrast with panelled teal walls, rusty red chairs and clean white tiling. Fresh enough for breakfast; stylish enough for dinner.

The light-hearted tone of the menu makes Parlour stand out further.

Swing by early morning for a bacon bap, eggs with soldiers or muesli with berry compote. Lunch could be spinach, red onion and Wensleydale tart, chicken liver pate or smoked salmon fishcakes with hollandaise sauce. Dinner’s more elaborate; ‘Steamed Pollock with Pin Stripe Bow Ties’, Goosnargh chicken with celeriac and chestnuts or a good old slow-cooked rump steak with ‘SMA-ASH’. They also do a great Sunday roast Sunday (beef or chicken, hazelnut for the veggies) to share, with all the trimmings and a lot of gravy. Which is nice.

But the puddings make Parlour truly special. There’s fried custard with Yorkshire rhubarb jam, ‘DIY Vanilla Mousse with Nuts and Bolts’, plus a weird and wonderful array of Arctic rolls. And our favourite: the ‘Toasted Marshmallow Wagon Wheel (which is like you remember it from your school lunchbox… only better).

The bar’s lively and spacious. There’s wine on tap, and their ‘Beeropedia’ lists a selection of unusual international beers sourced from the likes of Czechoslovakia and Hawaii. The cocktails are as good as their puds and definitely worth a try: go for ‘Not-In Hill?’ (Gypsy’s Lavender Vodka, Vanilla, Lemon and Gomme) or ‘Vicky & Bert’s Wedding Punch’ (5 Alive, Tequila, Passoa, and an umbrella).

Best of all, they’ll call you a cab at the end of the night…

You’ll need it.
