Which will make the upcoming Valentines Ball at the Candlelight Club pretty much the most romantic place on earth.
It’s actually happening a few days before V-Day itself, on the 9th of February in a grand “long forgotten”, completely secret East London venue. And as is typical of Candlelight Club operations, it’s going to be almost entirely lit by candles, with waxicles flickering away in swinging chandeliers, on pristine cabaret tables, and in virtually every corner of the room that’ll hold one. Everyone will be wearing their finest prohibition-era attire, champagne & cocktails will be flowing like water, and the live band will be whisking your ears away to the Jazz Age.
This particular venue, we’re told, is split into two halves: there’s the Ballroom, where your host Champagne Charlie will be MC-ing for the evening, and introducing acts like the brass-playing Bubbly Boys, vintage DJs The Bees Knees, and Charleston-dancing chorus line that is the Gatsby Girls.
There’s an extra bar next door in The Cabaret Lounge, where you can cut a rug to the gypsy jazz of Hot Swing Bohème, or simply admire the elegant acrobatics from duo Deux Ailes, burlesque from bombshell Bonnie Fox, and a little comic song from La Poule Plombée. And if you fancy a glimpse into your future, you can always get a reading from one of the circulating fortune-tellers…
