Riverside snow globes.
Apparently, London just can’t shake them.
Because after they took the Tower Bridge promenade by storm at the Coppa Club last year, they’re back – now occupying a fairylit spot on the Southbank as part of Jimmy Garcia’s latest pop up.
Hot on the tail of his BBQ pop up on the same spot, he’s now creating an entire winter wonderland by the river – and this time he’s packing in:
A FONDUE RESTAURANT
Quite literally building on his summer BBQ residency, the rooftop’s been converted into a fully-covered, cosy pop up chalet; complete with views across the river and London skyline beyond, rustic wood-panelled walls, twinkling tea lights at every table and an almighty feast menu, loaded with small plates like mulled-wine cured smoked salmon, game terrine with bacon crumb, and smoked goat’s curd with roasted pumpkin; and a bubbling pot of fondue served with charcuterie, new potatoes and bread.
Of course if you’re after a more private party, you can enjoy that feast in one of the dining igloos perched on the promenade outside. Planted beneath festoon-lit trees and overlooking the Thames, they’re yours for the entire evening, giving you plenty of time to pretend to everyone outside that you’re just a very life-like snowglobe.
HOT COCKTAILS & STREET FOOD
Finally, there’s a more relaxed, walk-in, covered area where you’ll be able to tuck into takeaway bites like raclette burgers, wild boar hot dogs and boxes of cheese and charcuterie whilst sitting by a roaring fire pit. And, not ones to do things by halves, the bar there will serve up a menu of hot cocktails like buttered rum topped with a meringue, a hot apple mojito, and a beefy bloody mary – not made with beef tomatoes, but er, beef stock.
Which, ironically, is great if you’re Friesian.
NOTE: Jimmy’s Lodge is open 10th November – 31st December, daily, 11am-11pm. The igloos and restaurant tables are bookable here.
