Things To Do

Peckham Fringe

Peckham’s getting a fringe theatre festival.

And it won’t just be productions of Hairspray.

In fact, you likely won’t have seen any of these shows before, because Peckham Fringe is all about platforming new writing and rising talent. And it’s proved such a hit, it’s now back for a third year.

It’s all going down – rather appropriately – on the fringes of Peckham itself, at Theatre Peckham on Camberwell Church Street (just behind the South London Gallery). They’ve been spotlighting young voices and emerging artists for over 35 years, so it’s safe to say they know talent when they see it.

Bangtail

Running from 1st May – 8th June, the festival encompasses everything from musicals and poetry to clowning, stand-up and theatre. There’s a lot going on. But some of the highlights include:

  • Public Enemy Number One, a new stand-up set from Backyard Comedy Club regular Jason Patterson;
  • Eye For A Word, a night of spoken word in short films;
  • Mandem, a poignant coming-of-age tale about three best friends (and self-professed board game geeks);
  • The Void, an absurdist clowning show where you’ll witness spiritual enlightenment live on stage;
  • Best Fit, a show about beauty and belonging set in an African tailoring shop;
  • Brother’s Keeper, a stirring exploration of love and loss under the guise of a surprise birthday party;
  • Last Goal Wins, a sold-out show from A Pinch of Vault which follows five young men trying out for the Nigerian national football team; and
  • BANGTAIL, a one-woman clown show about the Baddest Cowboy in Texas, fresh from acclaimed runs over in the US.

Best of all, tickets are all between a fiver and a tenner…

…just like the dishes at Silk Road down the street.
