NOTE: No 23 is currently closed until their next residency moves in – watch this space.
First the sad news: Poon’s Wontoneria – which ended up stretching the definition of ‘pop up’ by extending its residency for a whole year – has finally closed.
But now, the good news: Carousel has already found something else to chuck into its incubator space, next door at No. 23.
It’s called Chuck’s.
The story here is a bit of a nomadic one: Chuck’s is the brainchild of an NYC creative studio, which has launched a smashed burger concept in Milan, Rome, and most recently Paris. So it’s a kind of American-Italian love affair, which seems to be everywhere right now.
They’ll be taking over the 16-seater counter dining space for just a few weeks (although their originally slated fortnight run has now been extended by over a month, until 20th April). On the menu: an uncompromising, single smashburger. That means flattened patties topped with cheddar, pickles, white onion, and house-made special sauce on a potato roll with “no modifications”.
Of course, you can get fries with that – including the option to go ‘animal’ by topping them with a patty, cheddar, pickles, white onion and special sauce too – plus beer and sodas to wash it all down.
Sounds smashing.
NOTE: Chuck’s will be at Carousel’s No 23 until 20th April, Tuesdays – Saturdays. There’s no bookings, so just turn up – you can find out more HERE.
