PLEASE NOTE: This event has taken place.
No big deal… but that’s because this is a huge, massive deal.
At least, it is for us. You see, in honour of International Women’s Day next month, we’re launching Stand Up Sounds: an utterly glorious one-day mini festival that is going to HAVE. IT. ALL –
Comedy! From an all-female lineup of four well-established stand up comedians.
DJs! Courtesy of a trio of stellar female live DJs.
Food! Thanks to the talented, female-led team at My Neighbours The Dumplings
Tequila! From our proud sponsor Cazcabel Tequila (headed up by a female master distiller!).
It’s taking place in the eclectically bohemian Peckham Arches on March 9th, and breaking all of that goodness down, let’s start with the funny stuff…
Taking the mic will be comedians Lorna Rose Tree (voted number one to watch at Edinburgh Fringe by The Telegraph); Kemah Bob (Her CV’s massive, she’s hosted a dozen TV shows like House of Games, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club, etc, and she’s written for Have I Got News For You, Netflix, and a lot more); Tamsyn Kelly (finalist in the BBC New Comedian of the Year Award); and Tatty Macleod (who was voted one of the rising stars from this year’s Edinburgh Fringe by The Evening Standard). And we can confirm that they are all hilarious.

Outside the stage, the live DJs jockeying those discs and bringing that atmosphere will be Gracie DJ (house, disco & funk), Sophia French (soul, disco, hip-hop & funk); and GRACE (still flipping through her massive vinyl collection to decide on which sound to bring).
And, of course, the food. My Neighbours The Dumplings will be providing the likes of flavoursome courgette & woodear mushroom potstickers; tender miso glazed chicken thighs; slow cooked lamb shoulder with chunky knife-cut noodles, fresh coriander & green chilli; spicy braised tofu with chunky shiitake mushrooms & pickled shallots; classic smacked cucumbers; and pork pearl meatballs wrapped in sticky rice with peanut dipping sauce.
There’s another important name to add to this whole operation: our proud sponsor, Cazcabel Tequila. And we really are proud, because a) tequila is delicious, and b) Cazcabel is headed up in Mexico by a female master distiller Yadira Hernández Lozano, which is alarmingly rare. They’ll be pouring their wonderful wares into spicy welcome margaritas for everyone, as well as holding free tequila tasting sessions headed up by Cazcabel Tequila’s brand ambassador Sarah Ben Saoud. Cazcabel is a pretty impressive operation too – the Vazquez family have been farming their own agave, in their own fields for four generations, and they use to to make an additive-free tequila produced in their own distillery overseen by Yadira. It’s a proper field-to-glass set up, and they’re showing the industry how sustainability can be, well, sustainable.
Now, the tickets: you can either get the whole shebang (£30) which nets you entry; a welcome Cazcabel Spicy Margarita; an hour and fifteen minutes of comedy; live DJs; and access to our My Neighbours The Dumplings residency (although food isn’t included). Or there’s the less money, less funny tier which nets you everything but the standup comedy (entry, a welcome Cazcabel Spicy Margarita; live DJs; and access to the My Neighbours The Dumplings residency), all for just £15.
So it’s not just a big deal, it’s a good deal too.
NOTE: Stand Up Sounds will take place on March 9th at the Peckham Arches. Members can get tickets (£30/£15) in the locked members’ box at the top of the article. If you’re not a member, you can get tickets (£40/£20) here (password: THENUDGEXIWD2).
OTHER NOTE: Everyone loves a bit of merch, so we’ve got a bit of merch – we’ve designed a seriously sexy looking t-shirt that will be available to buy both in advance or via cash on the day.
