Maroto

Maroto means ‘naughty’ in Portuguese.

But it’s really very nice.

It’s a seductive, sleekly polished subterranean cocktail bar nestled underneath Bossa, the new Mayfair restaurant from two-time Michelin Star-winning Brazilian superchef Alberto Landgraf (whose other restaurant in Rio is currently on the World’s 50 Best List).

Maroto

You’ll find the place on a quiet Mayfair side street, with its own separate entrance right next to Bossa. You’ll then descend into what is a low-lit, moody temple of refined decadence dominated by a centrepiece X-shaped formation of plump & velvety plush sofas (which elegantly mirror the tables in the restaurant above), all lit by gorgeous chandeliers, and overlooked by a lustrous marble bar.

At that bar, they rustle up some fantastic cocktails, which include the Marotinha (with Zeca de Matos cachaca, berries, and lime) and the Sabia (Patron Silver, pineapple soda, passionfruit, lime), which tastes just as good without the booze, too.

Maroto drinks

While you sip on your drink, you’ll be able to tuck into a selection of bar snacks that follow on the Brazilian theme – expect pão de queijo, beef tartare and tapioca with mushrooms. And creating an equally lavish soundscape to go with all of this is DJ Shane Mac, the venue’s musical director, whose storied career has seen him work with everyone from Calvin Harris to Beyoncé. He’ll be spinning all night, and the bar stays open until 3am…

…in case you want to get a little maroto.

NOTE: Maroto is open Thursday – Saturday evenings from 9pm till the early hours. You can find out more HERE.

Previous perk: Nudge Members attended an exclusive launch party for Maroto, with welcome drinks, canapés and half price cocktails.
