Today is a special day.
Introducing you to the first, and only, non robot-operated pub ever to be featured on the Nudge: The Hunter S.
Created by the team behind the Hemingway in Victoria Park, The Hunter S is part 1930s, art deco-inspired lounge bar (all velvet and tortoise shell; polished wood; copper and a large, vintage crystal chandelier) and part hunting lodge (complete with antique fireplace; vintage armchairs and the mounting problem of a notably large collection of taxidermy).
Despite the low-lit quirkiness of it all, there’s no elaborate cocktail menu to stumble over here, just a well-focused wine list; a range of draught and bottled beers; and a very eclectic choice of over 150 spirits.
Buffalo and stag heads will enviously gaze on as the large open kitchen delivers you homemade scotch eggs or whole quail to start; mains including a Beef Wellington to share; 35 day air hung rib-eye; traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and bubble n’ squeak with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce; and apple or rhubarb with custard, Bailey’s cheesecake, or chocolate spring rolls with ice-cream to finish.
And there’s the Sunday Roast.
Huge legs of lamb, cornfed chicken or roast beef fillets (with all the trimmings) that give both locals and non-locals another big reason, should one ever be needed, to head this way at weekends.
NOTE: The Hunter S is open from 4pm on weekdays and noon on weekends (until 1am on Fri & Sat). Booking ahead is recommended, which you can do HERE.
