Minnow

If anyone can come up with a decent pun about this restaurant…

…let minnow.

Otherwise, it’s probably best just to tell you about this all-day diner in Clapham Common. It comes to us from Chris Frichot (who literally grew up in a Michelin Starred restaurant/hotel owned by his parents) and his partner Saba Tsegaye.

Minnow is set across a bi-level space, with indoor trees, greenery and a long marble bar on the ground floor, with a hand tiled monochrome mosaic floor leading to a small door, tucked at the back of the restaurant, where you’ll find a quiet walled garden outside. Downstairs, an open kitchen makes for an intimate dinner setting, where a vaulted booth, illuminated by a stained glass light box, sits inside a repurposed wine cellar.

Menu-wise, it’s a very international affair, with dishes like squid with lemongrass, lime, and ginger; baby octopus with curry leaf paste and charred green mango; whole roast poussin from the robata grill; and caramelised watermelon with a blood orange and Campari sorbet. Every day, Minnow’s also home to a quintessential neighbourhood brunch, with poached eggs, French toast and Full Englishes on offer until 3pm, or 4pm on weekends. Though if you’re there on a Sunday, you’re more likely to be cashing in on their excellent roasts, served with a ‘proper pudding’ and including BYOB for £28 a head.

Of course, during the rest of the week, they’ve got pay-as-you drink wines, a set of original cocktails, and some local craft beers on tap.

It’s brill-iant.

NOTE: Minnow is open all day, every day, with roasts 12-10pm on Sunday. You can book, and find out more, on their website right HERE.
