When you’re already one of the best cocktail bars in London, how do you top that?
With a rooftop restaurant, apparently.
Because that’s exactly what the folks at TT (formerly known as TT Liquor) have done, crowning their superlative drinking den with an all-new restaurant. It’s the domain of highly talented Sam Lone, the ex head chef at Oren, who’s flexing his culinary muscle with some live-fire cooking.
Head inside at ground level, and you’ll be walkie-talkie’d up by a very polite staff member behind a huge wooden desk. It’s at this point that you’ll have to earn your supper, by clambering up three flights of narrow steel stairs past their lush Orangery and emerging up into a glass-lined terrace blanketed in twinkling lights, all steeped in the heady perfume of charred food.
That wrap-around glass is quite useful when the weather plays up, because it means that the retractable roof can be snugly pulled over the whole thing without ruining the vibe, and still treating you to a lovely view. And despite the place not exactly scraping the sky, it really is a lovely view – you’ll feel a world away from the bustle below, seeing tube trains flit between tunnels and church steeples punctuating the skyline.
There’s also the pleasant sight of their bespoke asado-style grill and wood fired oven. They’re both busy scorching the likes of tender dry-aged ribeye with chimichurri; some excellent smoked oyster mushrooms with Burford Brown egg yolk; platefuls of hickory pork belly (it’s sooo tender and perfectly charred), and near-perfect barbecued chicken thighs. Oh, and if you order some focaccia to help mop up, just be warned that it’s literally an entire loaf of the stuff. Then, to finish, we highly recommend the pecan & whisky pie.
And of course, if you’re looking for a decent cocktail to go with it all?
You’re not in the worst place.
