Wright Brothers Battersea | Seafood in a Stylish Nautical Setting
Battersea.
It’s got everything you need to make fish and chips.
But you’ll be getting a whole lot more than that at the latest addition to the Wright Brothers family, whose elegant seafood spots have already sprung up in Borough Market and South Kensington.
Sporting an al fresco dining terrace overhung with twinkling festoon lighting and surrounded by views of both the river and Battersea Power Station right next door, it was one of the first eateries to open its doors on this redeveloped stretch of riverbank. Head inside and you’ll be met with interiors that are a little nautical, and a little Japanese, with the long marble cocktail bar complemented by wooden screens; industrial, ship-style lighting; and huge ink drawings of fish and crustacea adorning the walls.
It’s a warm and buzzy setting you can soak up while you also soak up one of their cocktails, like the Mariner, with black-pepper infused vodka, cucumber juice, jalapeño and absinthe; or the Toasted Truffle Honey, with double cream, rum and er, truffle honey.
Dishes, meanwhile, come in all shapes and sizes – there’s sharing platters of the daily catch; shellfish; oysters – served up raw or tempura-battered; small plates like seared scallop with truffled artichoke and sea bass ceviche with plantain crisps; larger plates of moules frites or dressed brown crab with grated egg and – in case you’ve been caught off-guard – ribeye and fillet steak.
What’s special to Wright Brothers Battersea, though, is the addition of a Josper grill sitting in the centre of the open kitchen – and it’s onto this flaming behemoth that they toss salmon fillets, served with white miso and pickled King Oyster mushrooms; halibut, plated up alongside Cornish mussels and kale; and winter beets, scattered with feta cheese and puffed rice…
And if you’re feeling remotely peckish after all that, there’s lemon posset and treacle tart for dessert, or you can kick back with one of their After Dinner cocktails, like the Ferrero Martini – with frangelico, vodka, espresso, hazelnuts and Nutella.
…And you definitely can’t get that at your local chippie.
NOTE: Wright Brothers Battersea is open daily, with £1 oyster happy hours on weekdays 3-6pm, and weekend brunch from 9am. You can find out more and book your table on their website HERE.
