Are we alone in the universe?
Well, either we are or we aren’t, and frankly either answer is equally terrifying.
But one thing’s for sure, you won’t be alone if you head along to the next in our series of Nudge Talks, because you’ll be joined by astronomer Hannah Banyard who will try to come as close to an answer to the Big Question as is reasonably possible for a regular ol’ human. It’s all happening on March 13th at The Parakeet, one of London’s best and most popular gastropubs, and we’re taking over the private room on the top floor of the place… meaning that, yes, technically speaking the talk isn’t taking place on earth.
There Hannah Banyard will be chatting about the ideas she explores in her book, The Search For Life. She’s an astronomer who, after a degree in astrophysics and a Masters in planetary science (involving research into astrobiology), joined the team at the iconic Greenwich Observatory where she worked as one of their astronomers & communicators.
On the evening in question you’ll get to kick proceedings off with a complimentary welcome drink from the bar (a pint, a house wine or a spirit & mixer) and then Hannah will talk about everything from the possibility of ancient bacteria locked away in dried lakebed on Mars, to the prospect of communicating with civilisations on the other side of the galaxy, and everything in between. Hannah’s speciality is in science communication, and has a deft ability to break down complex subjects into easily digestible chunks, so your welcome drink ought not to impair your ability soak up the info.
Afterward there’ll be the traditional and slightly more informal question & answer session, as well as a chance to grab a book (and get it signed) before everyone heads downstairs…
