They’re the perfect place to raise a glass.
And now there’s one more to add to your roster of informal-yet-elegant sun traps to frequent this summer, because May sees the arrival of a sibling rooftop to the wildly successful Pergola on the Roof, which landed on the multi-storey car park by the old BBC centre in White City last year (and is also back, fear not).
The sophomore venue, Pergola Paddington Central, is cropping up (surprise!) in the Paddington Basin, commandeering a sprawling, canalside, 850-capacity space for its aestival shenanigans.
The design takes more of an urban, sophisticated direction than its sibling, with smooth, natural decking and miniature jungles proliferating over trellises and sprouting out of planters. This also means more permanent-looking stalls for the food traders, who are so far set to include:
Patty & Bun, the stalwarts of the original Pergola pop ups, serving up their 35 day aged Angus steak burgers sandwiched between crumbly brioche buns;
Mamalan, making its first West London foray and dragging its handmade dumplings and Beijing-inspired street food with it;
DF/Mexico, essentially a cross between an American diner and a Mexican food truck serving dishes created by a former Masterchef winner;
Decatur, a New-Orleans styled Creole comfort food spot that had a long-running pop up at Pamela’s, who – fingers crossed – might just turn up with their cheesy, garlicky baked oysters in tow; aaand
Raw Press, which serves gluten free salads and raw juices, but is probably still very tasty.
And of course there’ll be booze aplenty to be enjoyed on communal benches under the leafy, fairylit and slightly plastic roof-covered main area, as well as resident DJs and regular live music nights.
If you really want to raise the roof.
NOTE: Pergola Paddington Basin is open daily from noon for lunch and dinner, until 1st October. You can make reservations for four or more on their website here.
