Pergola Paddington | Al Fresco Bar in West London
Last Updated: 18th April 2019
Paddington’s canals have got a lot more going for them these days.
And here’s a spot you do want to touch with a bargepole.
It’s called Pergola Paddington, and it’s commandeered a leafy, two-storey, 850-capacity semi-outdoor space in the Paddington Basin development for street food and cocktails. And you.
Shielded from the industrial views around it, it’s a little oasis amidst the glossy offices and bustling transport lines. You’ll arrive to find yourself on the upstairs terrace, equipped with daybeds (large enough for up to 15 people, and bookable in advance), benches and a very large bar, at which you’ll spy cocktails on tap, draught beers, wine and G&Ts – all of which are 2-4-1 for their ludicrously generous happy hour (4-7pm on Thursdays & Fridays).
Head downstairs, and you’ll find the pergola itself, festooned with fairylights, flowers and foliage overhanging rows of long, communal tables, and the four street food kiosks, which for the summer include:
Smash Patty, a spin-off from the Patty & Bun team serving Dexter beef patties sandwiched between a bespoke potato bread bun from Bread Ahead;
Honi Poké with their customisable poke bowls;
An Choi, a new outfit from Salvation In Noodles’ Colin Tu, serving spicy wonton dumplings; and
Babek Brothers, serving kebabs alongside halloumi fries.
For the first time, they’re also hosting bottomless brunches on Sundays (launching this Easter Saturday), where £25 will net you freely flowing Aperol spritzes, Peronis, prosecco, Pimm’s and G&Ts. Plus, the vendors will be laying on special brunch takes on their usual dishes (though you’ll have to pay for those separately).
Also new for this year, they’ve pulled back some of the roof on the lower level, almost doubling the amount of al fresco space. But of course, there’s still a contingency plan, just in case the British summer decides to be a little, well… British.
So whatever the weather…
…they’ve got you covered.
NOTE: Pergola Paddington is open from Thurs-Sat (Thur-Fri 4-11pm, Sat 12-11pm). They take walk-ins, but you can make reservations (for up to 199 people) on their website right HERE. Please note that smaller groups might be put on a table with another group.
