RA Lates: Cosmic Ocean
Every so often, the Royal Academy throw open their doors to a gaggle of curiously-dressed party-goers for an after-hours extravaganza inspired by their current exhibitions.
And they’re taking that current theme very literally with their upcoming event: Cosmic Ocean.
Besides, presumably, a lot of starfish, you can also expect a veritable lollapalooza of music, dance, art and cocktails, all in celebration of the Pacific archipelagos’ art and nature. It all ties into their beautiful exhibition, Oceania – the first major survey of Polynesian art to be displayed in the UK.
RA Lates: The Enchanted Forest
You are cordially invited to don your most extravagant cosmic/deep sea-themed attire, and join them for a late-night romp through their grandiose 17th century manor. You’ll be let loose after hours to explore the exhibition, sipping cocktails served from a vintage VW camper van, before trying your hand at wild-life sketching in an oceanic-themed drawing room; going stargazing in a pop up planetarium; taking an immersive dive down to the depths of the sea; listening to archaeologists and anthropologists; watching dance performances (and learn a few moves) from Tahitian and Kiribati dance groups; bopping to DJs and live music sets; soaking up some roving performance art; and more.
No, seriously, there’s more.
Because plumping for the VIP ticket will also net you a glass of Champagne on arrival, a curator’s tour of the exhibition, a glitter makeover, a private workshop for tropical wreath-making, goody bags to take home, and access to a secret, sea-themed bar all night.
It’s like a reef, but bar-rier.
NOTE: RA Lates: Cosmic Ocean takes place on 20th October, 7-11.45pm. Tickets cost £35 (or £75 for VIP), which you can book HERE.
