Roundhouse Comedy Festival | Big Names Come To Camden
Roundhouse is a well rounded venue.
And we’re not just saying that because of its name, or its unmistakable round dome. In the past the Camden landmark next to Chalk Farm Tube – once a train depot where railway carriages would get sent for repairs – has seen fashion shows, avant-garde theatre, poetry contests, acrobatic performances and, as one of London’s best live music venues, some of most memorable gigs to have graced the city.
And come August, The Roundhouse will be showing that it has a good sense of humour too, by adding a comedy festival to its repertoire. The Roundhouse Comedy Festival does what it says on the tin: no reading between the lines. A simple but effective title. The whole thing will run from Saturday the 5th until Wednesday 23rd, and as it’s the first edition, the organisers are pulling out all the stops to ensure it’s a big one. Think of it like a mini Edinburgh Fringe.
For the lineup they’ve managed to, ahem, round up some of planet earth’s most hilarious human beings. They include a trio of fast-rising comedic geniuses Jordan Gray, Lolly Adefope and Rhys James – all no strangers to a sold-out show – on opening night (Sat 5th); a gala fronted by award-winning Irish jokester Dylan Moran (Weds 9th); a live recording of Jessica Fostekew‘s podcast ‘The Hovering‘ (Thurs 10th); and side-splitting shows from other household names like Katherine Ryan, the Canadian standup behind Netflix’s The Duchess (and who has done loads of other incredible things, to be honest), and Sophie Duker of Taskmaster fame (who’s also done many other noteworthy things…).
More names are being rolled out at the time of writing and all told…
…It looks like it’ll be a laugh.
