The Glenrothes Honesty Bar

People, as you know, are uncharacteristically honest after a couple of drams…

….making whisky the perfect drink to build an honesty bar around.

And single malt scotch distillers The Glenrothes have realised this, so they’re taking over an impossibly atmospheric, low-lit, subterranean bar in an old Victorian police station in East London for one night only; throwing in a pinch of private tasting masterclasses; and inviting you along to enjoy an unlimited number of drams and cocktails for however much you think they’re worth.

It all meshes rather smoothly with their whole ethos – that whisky shouldn’t be about complex jargon or stuffy exclusivity. Instead, they favour authenticity, honesty, and a kind of open door policy about the drink – which is why they want to give you the opportunity to decide for yourself exactly how you feel about it, no (purse)strings attached.

The Glenrothes Honesty Bar

Head down to the inimitable TT Liquor, Shoreditch’s sprawling tipple emporium, and you’ll be handed what’s likely to be a very persuasive welcome drink. But if you’re keen to taste a little more – you know, just to make really sure you like it – you’ll then be free to peruse the bespoke menu for the evening. It all showcases The Glenrothes’ brand new Soleo Collection, a sextet of solid, standalone whiskies that have been slowly matured in sherry-seasoned oak casks. You’ll be able to taste neat drams, sip others on the rocks, or plump for one of the three tailor-made cocktails expertly designed to bring out the collection’s variety of flavour profiles (ranging from soft vanilla, to tangier coriander and ginger). Ooh, and as a little palate cleanser there’ll also be bar treats provided courtesy of everybody’s favourite Scottish restaurant in London, Mac & Wild.

But if you reeeally want to do the evening in style? Well there’s a limited number of booths in the bar, tucked into the vaulted cells of the old police station. Reserve seats here, and you and your group will be treated to a private tasting masterclass with The Glenrothes expert, Stuart Cassells, which includes a dram of their 25-year malt (retailing at a mere £375 per bottle). Naturally, we’ve already reserved one of these booths for a Nudge reader and up to 9 friends – just enter the competition on this page for a chance to win it.

It’s going to be amazing.

Honestly.

NOTE: Please note the competition has now closed. The Glenrothes Honesty Bar is popping up at TT Liquor on 12th September only. There will be two sessions, 6-8pm and 8.30-10.30pm, and cost £10 to attend (including your welcome drink and bar snacks), or £40 for entry and booth seating for up to 5 (booths are shared between two groups, except for the Nudge prize booth). You can book in, and find out more here.
