But we’re not Ghana lower ourselves.
Instead, allow us to tell you about the next chef to grace the residency platform at Soho pub, The Sun & 13 Cantons, Zoe Adjonyoh. Born from a pop-up in the truest sense of the word, when Zoe literally dragged her oven outside her flat to serve up her signature peanut butter stew on the street, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen has been bringing contemporary West African comfort food to the masses since 2010.
When she’s not running sell-out supperclubs and making street trader appearances at festivals, she’s heading up her minuscule, but constantly packed restaurant nestled in one of the shipping containers at Pop Brixton. And now that she’s settling down for the next six months in a space with more than six tables, there’s a chance you can actually sample some of her lauded cooking.
The menu at The Sun takes inspiration from the recipes in Zoe’s upcoming cookbook, and is set to comprise bar snacks and sharer plates like tempura-battered okra fries, pork ribs in sticky plantain sauce, and the slow cooked Red Red Stew, alongside larger helpings of Jollof Fried Chicken, and Grilled Lamb Cutlets with Spiced Peanut Sauce. Dessert, meanwhile, will be the province of the blowout Banoffee Pie, made with Divine chocolate and the West African snack, Love Chin Chin. And as for drinks? Well, luckily you’re in a pub.
NOTE: Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen residency is now open until the end of September, and runs Tues – Fri, 12:00 – 2:30pm / 5:30 – 9:00pm (bar snack menu only on Thursday and Friday nights) and Sat 12:00 – 10:00pm. Reservations can be made on the pub website HERE.
