Los Mochis London City

Our capital has once again donned its most impressively cosmopolitan hat, and acquired a rather splendid new Mexican-Japanese restaurant. From a Finnish founder. In Liverpool Street.

It’s called Los Mochis London City, and it’s the bigger sibling to the original Los Mochis in Notting Hill (which has one of London’s best hidden restaurants inside it). And all of this global-cross pollination is open now.

Los Mochis London City

The brainchild of restaurateur Markus Thesleff, known for the sleek cocktail haunt Viajante87, Los Mochis London City is a fairly ambitious fusion of global influences. As you enter, you’re welcomed by a smiling staff member in a lobby featuring a 24ft handpainted mural by Mexican artist Tellaeche. An elevator then whisks you up to the 9th floor, where a 14,000sqft culinary playground unfolds. Here, you’ll find a restaurant, two bars, several private dining rooms, and a sprawling 3,000sqft terrace boasting panoramic views of London, including landmarks like The Shard and St Paul’s.

The first port of call as you step inside will be the Agaveria & Lounge. This then leads to a cozy, slightly elevated dining area decked out with plush cream sofas, some lining the windows. Continue on, and you’ll encounter a large restaurant space featuring an open kitchen and booth seating, ideal for groups, and adorned with a small jungles-worth of verdant plants. The entire space is bathed in a warm orange glow in the evenings, complemented by a thin orange light that traces the ceiling, merging seamlessly with the sunset.

The terrace, accessible from the restaurant, boasts Mexican Talavera tiles and cacti, overlooking iconic views of St Paul’s and The Gherkin. Here, amidst a fun yet laid-back atmosphere with upbeat electronic tunes, a champagne trolley (also serving sparkling kombucha) makes its rounds.

On the menu, the restaurant showcases a blend of Mexican-Japanese cuisine with a sushi bar and a robata grill. Highlights include truffle guacamole on crispy rice, 15 types of Kushiyaki grilled skewers, spicy hiramasa maki, salmon tiradito enhanced with yuzu, and make-your-own tacos featuring Wagyu Grade 5 tomahawk steaks and whole roasted king crab legs.

The bars (plural) involve a pretty decent selection of beverages (very much plural). The main agaveria offers an extensive array of rare tequilas and mezcals, alongside a curated list of wines and sake. Signature cocktails include the Los Mochis Tommy’s and a standout Mezcal Espresso Martini, while the popular coco limon cocktail features a creamy coconut top deserving its own spoon.

Oh, and it has a 3am late license.

Very cosmopolitan indeed.

NOTE: Los Mochis London City is open on now. You can find out more at the website right here.
