The owners of Clapham’s critically beloved The Manor have opened a new restaurant.
In a manor of speaking.
It’s called Sorella, and it’s literally located in the space that was The Manor – a swap which happened when owner/chef Robin Gill (also of similarly vaunted The Dairy) was looking for the perfect spot for his new Amalfi-inspired Italian restaurant…before realising that he already owned it.
So, in due course, he and his team stripped out the interior – leaving a rustically minimal space built from distressed wood tables, and bare brick walls – before then installing pasta machines, bread ovens, and gelato makers, with which they’re now crafting their Amalfi-coast inspired goods.
The small stuff, in true Italian style, begins with the cichetti; you can expect small bites including fat, dark green fried Nocellara olives, or some risotto-loaded truffle arancini. Going larger, the antipasti includes 20 month aged Prosciutto Marchigiano; a little mackerel crudo & salsa verde; or a goats curd, kale & tomato pizzetta. If all you’re after is the big stuff, then you can happily spring for a bit of fresh and zingy crab linguine with fennel & chilli; a hunk of roasted pollock with roe & chard; or some Yorkshire venison with charred onions.
For dessert, you’ll have to – somehow – choose between their Pump Street chocolate & fennel gelato; hay panna cotta & quince; or a malted barley affogato & vodka milk. And if that gets you in the mood for a drink, well there are…
The wine is all-Italian, and there are house-made liqueurs being poured into the likes of their Sorella Americano, with house vermouth, Campari & soda; and the Manhattan to Clapham, whose bourbon & bitters is offset by a little homemade maraschino. That’s right…
…they brewed it in their manor.
NOTE: Sorella is open for lunch Wed-Sun (12-2.45pm), and dinner Tues-Sat (6-10pm). You can find out more, and make a reservation on their website right HERE.
