Things To Do

One Of The World's Most Prestigious Photography Shows Is Back In London

The World Press Photo Exhibition is, perhaps ironically, not a very snappy name – but the images themselves are amazing.

It’s returning to London at the start of May this year, and you’ll find it in a rather flash (pun intended) gallery space in the fancy Borough Yards development, nestled right in the heart of Borough Market.

So just what is the The World Press Photo Exhibition, you ask? Well, that’s understandable, seeing at it hasn’t passed through this town for seven years now. The idea is to basically throw a spotlight on the impactful storytelling through press photography. It’s been doing just that since 1955, and the show is now celebrating its 67th (!) anniversary.

In total, the exhibition distills literally tens of thousands of entries from thousands upon thousands of photographers spanning half the world’s countries, finally whittling them down to just a couple of dozen winners. They’ll be revealed at the end of April, before being shown in the gallery itself.

After opening in London the plan is to then go on tour around the world, with shows in 60+ cities, with a total of roughly 4 million visitors – and that’s not to mention the social-driven web traffic that these images will receive. Basically, it’s a big deal.

And perhaps the best bit? Being in Borough Yards, you can drop into recently opened gems like Akara, Rambutan, Camille, and Kolae for dinner, or perhaps Swift Borough for cocktails…

…or some well composed shots.

NOTE: The World Press Photo Exhibition is set to open between Friday 3rd May — Monday 27th May in Borough Yards. You can find out more, and get advanced tickets (£5+) right here.
