Judge not, lest ye be judged…
…unless ye want to run a cooking talent competition. Like The Great British Menu. Then a judge is more or less essential. And yes, that judge is certainly opening themselves up to considerable critical scrutiny by opening up a restaurant of their own, but something tells us that Andi Oliver will be just fine.
Her restaurant, named Andi’s, is now open in Stoke Newington. It’s a brunch spot by day, and a brasserie by night, with a simple wood-furnished interior abutted by an enchantingly fairy-light strewn, white-walled, tile-floored al fresco terrace in the back. Now onto,
Yes, you’ll find all the standard fare, from expect baked eggs, and french toast with maple syrup, as well as large pastrami & cheese sandwiches – but there’s also a focus on healthy eating coming in the form of ‘Energy Bowls’ packed with roasted veggies, salads, and avocados. Then there’s,
The starters range from torched mackerel & picked cucumber; to grilled walnut polenta with fried egg and candied chilli walnuts; to sautéed chicken livers with braised onions. Mains, meanwhile, include the likes of chargrilled octopus & tempura shrimp tacos; chilli sugar pork belly with Asian-spiced gravy; and Turkish slow-east shoulder of goat. And all of it can be handily capped with a raw chocolate & date nut tart, or a rhubarb creme brûlée.
Drinkswise, she’s bussed in Borough Wines to provide a little vino on tap, supplementing an already strong wine list, plus a few cocktails (margaritas, gin fizzes, etc.). Is it all as good as it sounds?
You be the judge.
NOTE: Andi’s is now open, and you can make a booking on their website right HERE.
