Breddos Kingly Street

Breddos Kingly Street | Soho Taqueria

You can never have just one taco.

And you can never have just one stunningly good taco joint, as apparently the folks behind Breddos in Clerkenwell have discovered.

For their followup, they’ve picked out a place in Soho’s Kingly Street. It’s more than double the size of the original with a bar underneath, and has a distinctly more Mexican feel (as opposed to the LA-styled Clerkenwell spot), although they still have a record player with a sizeable selection of ’50s Mexican vinyl for diners to dip into.

In the kitchen, they’ve got a specially designed pizza oven that’s used to make Breddos’ interpretations of tlayudas (Mexican pizzas), plus a custom-made wood grill and charcoal spit, from which they can make both the Clerkenwell favourites  – baja fish tacos, masa fried chicken tacos, tuna tostadas, and kung pao pork belly tacos, etc. – and…

THE NEW STUFF

Breddos Tacos Soho

Menu highlights include: chestnut smoked Tamworth pork al pastor with roasted pineapple, sour chile and tamarind salsa; hot pepper crab tostada with cucumber escabeche; and acapulco shrimp and corn esquites queso fundido. And there’s also going to be – for the first time – breakfast. Yes, you can score a little AM combo of smoked brisket, fried potatoes, egg and hot sauce; cinnamon churro French toast; and confit pork memelas with black beans and scrambled eggs (with or without grasshoppers). Then there’s,

THE BAR

Breddos Tacos Soho

Slung underneath the restaurant, the Cocteleria stocks 30 different Mescals, a selection of cocktails (well hellooo Wasabi margaritas, smoked mango mescalitas), tabasco-laced beers or micheladas, and warm espresso martinis made with horchata. And if you’re peckish and pining for their street food days, you can order a couple of bar snacks on paper plates to keep you going.

Which sounds very good on paper.

NOTE: Breddos Kingly Street is open daily from noon-11pm (8pm Sundays). They also have a happy hour daily from 4-6pm, with £3 tacos, beers and £5 frozen margaritas; and the bar is open Wed-Sat from 5.30pm-midnight. You can find out more and book a table on their website HERE.
