Tanner & Co | Bermondsey Restaurant
It’s not what it used to be.
But this week it’s returning to its glory days: to a time when literally everyone was regularly expressing sentimental longings for the past. Remember those days?
They were amazing.
And it’s all thanks to Tanner & Co, an old leather warehouse located just a stone’s throw from The Shard… if you’re Fatima Whitbread.
On entering what used to be Delfina (the interior of which could have only ever been described as “white”) you’ll be met by a sprawling, school gym-inspired, nostalgia-inducing expanse of wooden climbing bars and ropes, industrial lighting, exposed metal piping, leather and vintage furniture.
To the left you’ll spot a long, multicoloured bar encased by more climbing bars, a collection of large glass cases containing oversized chemistry bottles, and a series of trophy cabinets filled with decanters, booze, books…. and some actual trophies. And to the right you’ll see the restaurant, where contemporary British comfort food – which includes a full breakfast/brunch menu in addition to charcuterie boards, salads, steaks, burgers and puddings (butterscotch tart, please) – is served to diners sitting at booths made out of vaulting horses.
There’s also a casual space for mini private gatherings (in addition to the main events space in another room), a long wooden dining table for 14 and a couple of “lovebird” booths tucked away at the back for the benefit of anyone who’s on a date… or just doesn’t like being near other people.
NOTE: Now open from 8am daily, you can book a table HERE.
