Bar Three | Spitalfields Bar
It might seem like an odd name.
And as the second bar from the team behind Three Sheets… it sort of is. But any notions of numerical discombobulation will be neatly swept away once you’ve descended into the beautiful cellar space parked beneath Blixen, the lauded eatery in Spitalfields Market.
Blixen finds itself in an old bank building, and this moody, cavernous drinking den is set in the former vaults, complete with their original arches & bare brick walls. They’ve done a little light set dressing, however, and it now also bears Prohibition-style tiled ceilings; seductive leather booths and a sprawling, well-stocked bar – behind which, you’ll spot the barkeeps whipping together elegant concoctions, and hacking away at an ice block with a literal axe. Yeah.
The idea behind the place/name is rather simple: like its predecessor, the menu is split into threes, with cocktails presented across three sections (organised by flavour – light, medium, and full – rather than spirit), with three drinks in each. And while that menu regularly ebbs and flows, you can expect something along the lines of…
French 75 (with gin, orange flower, and verjus); Rhubarb Spritz; and Peach (fermented peach wine and soju, in a peach emoji-stickered bottle);
Pisco + Black packing fermented blackberry, blackcurrant leaf, Pisco, and soda; a raspberry Martini; and a honey-laced Tequila Highball;
The Whisky + Milk, combining Woodford Reserve with cedar and milk-washed Earl Grey; the Stone Wall with Somerset brandy, perry and egg white; and the Apple + Plum, with cognac, apple cordial and acidulated butter.
Perfect for those nights you’re feeling just a touch under-acidulated.
NOTE: Bar Three is open Tues-Sat, 4-11pm. You can find out more, and reserve a spot, right HERE.
