Dead Dolls House Islington | Angel Restaurant & Bar
You’re in Islington, and looking for danger.
But you’ll settle for a quiet nightcap. Or twelve.
Every bar has either closed or is closing, but – as always – you have an ace up your sleeve… which you promptly play by taking your guests to Dead Dolls House on Upper Street, the glorious reincarnation of the recently demised, and much loved, Hoxton house of the same name.
As Team You arrive, you promptly note that a large number of people have – for reasons which confuse you – also decided to visit the only venue in the area with a 4am licence. Your rabble shimmy straight in to what used to be the ground floor pub of The House Of Wolf but is now a contemporary, glitter ball-heavy interpretation of a 1940s Chicago music hall serving up strong drinks, live jazz and the house DJ’s selection of upbeat jazz, blues, lindy hop and funk-focused foot tappers.
But you ain’t in the mood for funk-focused foot tapping tonight (though you may at this point make a mental note of their 5-hour bottomless prosecco happy hour). So you swiftly head upstairs, past the quiet little Drawing Room and the Library (which serves nine varieties of espresso martini) before ascending into the rafters of the attic Ballroom. Enveloped by exposed brickwork – and featuring the largest glitter ball that’s ever been squeezed into a room of this size – it’s actually a restaurant until 11:30pm, delivering a menu of brunch classics by day and bottomless baos (Tues-Thurs), vegan junk food, burgers and superfood bowls by night. After which, they complete the transformation into late night cocktail den, serving the classics alongside ‘healthy cocktails’ combining tequila with turmeric.
Could be a looong night…
NOTE: The Dead Dolls House Islington is open every day except Mondays. You can find out more and reserve a table (or private room) on their website HERE.
